I am a cultural sociologist in New York University’s sociology department.

My research on creativity draws on pragmatism and cognitive sociology to theorize social processes of culture creation. My research on cultural consecration explores how posthumous reputations influence artistic traditions.

I teach to provide students with opportunities to develop their capacities for sociological thinking and self-direction. As a university instructor, I think classrooms should be adapted to accommodate the social world, not the other way around. I have previously taught The Sociology of Culture, The Sociology of Hip-Hop, and I co-taught the University of Toronto’s Culture, Creativity, and Cities Undergraduate Capstone course with Dr. Clayton Childress.
